John Scally – Lead Pastor – Contact Me

Education: Bachelor of Arts in Church Ministries/Bible with a Youth Emphasis from Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, Wisconsin

Family Life: My wife Tami and I were married in 1999 and were in youth ministry together for 14 years before coming to Emmanuel.  We have three children; Zach, Hope and Victoria who constantly keep us busy with soccer, basketball, piano and so much more.  On most Friday nights we enjoy “movie and pizza night” together.

Hobbies: My interests are Redwings hockey and Michigan football, but honestly I enjoy most sports.  My four food groups are pizza, pasta, Pepsi and chocolate.

Spiritual Motivation:  The driving force in my life is the Gospel message that changes lives.  My vision for our future as a church is that we will reach the greater Flint area through a community youth center and strategic ministries like UPWARD sports.  I am driven by the song lyrics of Casting Crowns, “Until the whole world hears…”

Family Life: Trusted Christ as Savior as a seven year old and yielded to full-time ministry in Jr. High school.  Pastored Calvary Baptist Church in Union Iowa and Grace Baptist Church in Austin, Minnesota before coming to Emmanuel in 1995.  Married Nancy and together are the parents of four boys and one girl.  We now have 14 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, 1 great grandson and  1 great granddaughter.

Hobbies: Love traveling the country to see families and playing golf with the senior men.

Spiritual Motivation: Accepting the call of God to “preach the Word” and “Tell others about Jesus” has been the push for these many years.  We love caring for our seniors as they face the unique events on their journey. I enjoy experiencing the love and faithfulness of God and sharing it with others.

Ross Martello – Youth Pastor – Contact Me

Education:  Bachelor of Science in Youth Ministry and Minor in Greek from Cornerstone University

Family Life: Married Laura Martello in 2004 and have two daughters, Allie and Erin.

Hobbies: I love sports of any type both playing and watching.  I also like to dabble in computers and have built my own desktop, which means I am still a PC guy (Sorry Mac).  I also love to try new food, play board games and watch movies.

Spiritual Motivation:  I desire to see teens pattern their lives after Jesus by developing a true relationship with Him and mature in that relationship as they move towards adulthood.  Also there is nothing more exciting than seeing a teen come to accept Jesus as Lord of their life and then go out and spread that love to their friends!

Dan Thorpe – Growth Pastor – Contact Me

Education: Bachelor of Arts in Bible from Moody Bible Institute and a Master of Divinity from Moody Theological Seminary – Michigan

Family Life: Married Kellie in 2008 and have a daughter, Anna.

Hobbies: I am an amateur coffee roaster and a professional coffee drinker.  I enjoy watching football and hockey.  I love to read a good book and play a good board/strategy game.

Spiritual Motivation: My goal in ministry is to bring Glory to God and enjoy him for eternity. Furthermore, I desire to use my God-given gifts to equip, empower, and excite others to do the same.

My motivation comes from 1 Timothy 4:12-16 where Paul challenges Timothy to be an example to the believers in word, conduct, love, faith, and purity. He tells Timothy to devote himself to the public reading of the Word, to preaching and teaching. He also tells him to watch his doctrine closely and to persevere for the sake of others.

God impressed this upon my heart while I was on a mission trip, to Australia, with my youth group. These verses have been my motivation ever since.

Matt Hatton – Children’s Pastor – Contact Me

Education: I began my post-secondary education in the Fall of 2011 at Liberty University in Virginia to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Biblical/Theological Studies. I have continued pursuing that degree of study at a slower rate since I began vocational ministry in the Summer of 2012. I will be graduating soon!

Family Life: Along with the start of vocation ministry I met my beautiful wife Morgan during the summer of 2012 as well. We have been married Since August 2013 and recently (March 2017) began the journey of parenthood with our baby girl Charlotte.

Hobbies: Besides family, ministry, and school there are many hobbies I enjoy! I love experiencing Gods creation through outdoor recreation such as fishing, hunting, hiking, backpacking, camping, biking, dirt-biking, disc golf, golf, as well as many other outdoor activities. If I’m stuck inside, you may find me working on something in the garage. *I am not an amateur coffee roaster like Dan claims to be.

Spiritual Motivation: I desire to see God glorified in our duty to make disciples who make disciples. Through sharing the Gospel of Christ, baptism, and teaching of the Word I love to be a part of discipleship coming full circle in the lives of people of all ages and nations.
